UCSD Formula SAE

Welcome to the home of UC San Diego's racing team!

The Society of Automotive Engineers club on the UC San Diego campus is dedicated to design, fabrication, and testing of an open-wheel prototype race car for the Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (FSAE) competition held during various parts of the year all throughout the country. The Triton Racing team places students in an optimal position to gain hands own knowledge while applying classroom theory in a real world setting. As a team, we strive to push and test our engineering and design capabilities so that we may extend the boundaries of innovation and establish ourselves in the forefront of FSAE.

Team 2013

TR-13E

For the 2013 season the team has decided to take a step away from the gasoline powered Formula SAE car and explore the world of the electric race car. In 2013, Formula SAE West is set to happen in Lincoln, Nebraska with a new Electric division. Iterating on our experience from TR-9E, the teams only ever fully electric Formula SAE car which placed 3rd in the hybrid-in-progress category, we aim to produce a car that parallels the achievements of our most successful gasoline powered cars. With a solid foundation of intelligent engineers and a highly experienced group of advisers, the 2013 season looks to be the most promising season to date.

Thank you Brian Tilley, Sam Jafarian, Arun Varma, Prithvi Sundar, Matt Morris, Jarred Hoffman, and Julio for your greatly appreciated work! They machined and welded the chassis and the front suspension points before leaving for winter break.

Happy Holidays from UCSD Formula SAE! We look forward to seeing everybody during the new year.

Goodbye to the TR-9E

The TR-9E, our first all electric racecar, was purchased by a former alumni Tej Patel!

Tej Patel is an FSAE Alumni that was on the team that built the TR-9E. The TR-9E went to competition back in 2009 with an eager team of brilliant engineers. The 2009 team and Tej put a large amount of work into the racecar and they have continued to assist the current Formula SAE team by serving as a community adviser.

It was sad to see the TR-9E go but it will be nice to see it (hopefully) back on the SCCA autocross. To see pictures of the TR-9E please click on the 'History' tab.
